Default The Eurovision Song Contest

OMG I totally need this thread!!

Wasn't sure where to put it though, in "TV" or "Music hall". You decide for me
Maybe it's much more a TV-thing though... hhmm... Move it!!

Here's wikipedia's explanation of what it's all about:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eurovision_Song_Contest

And here's the link to THIS year's contest - 2008 - in Serbia, Belgrade!
http://www.eurovision.tv

The Swedish national competition is starting this weekend on Swedish television. There will be six Saturdays of competing. Always soooo much fuuuuun to watch!!! When it's over Swedes will know 32 completely new songs, and one of them is the winner and our contribution to the Eurovision Song Contest in May, this year in Serbia.

In Germany there are just a few songs to choose still - maybe the producers wanna keep trash-songs out. We had enough from this kind over the last years, but the disadvantage is, that the tv-guys are performing a pre-choice from their own taste and point of view.
Our pre-election is on March, 6th.

Yay, the Eurovision!!!!! I'm going bananas for that (hahaha omg I'm so tired here)!

I have no idea when they will select our song and how, but I guess nothing will beat Lordi, so it doesn't matter that much. hehehe...

When is the actual competition? Sometime in May? Just asking out of curiosity, without anything special in mind...

20th? I thought it was the 24th this year...

I like watching the Eurovision each year, it's a fun tradition. Watching the songs, having a laugh about the weird costumes/dances/grandmothers playing the drums , staying up late and trying to keep your eyes open 'til the end, then the farcical voting, and waiting to see my country get nil points! (usually ) LOL, and so on... It rocks!

Looks like there will be two semifinals, one on May 20th and one on May 22nd.
Then the final is Saturday May 24th. YAY!!

I think it's good with two semifinals and I hope that means that they will split up all the semifinalists. Otherwise that show almost becomes as long as the final show.

Maybe we can watch it "together" and comment (?) on it like we did last year in the "old forum". That was just hilarious! (I think we filled about 17 pages during the show...)

lol You people are crazy...

Kahle, that's a great idea!!! It was so much fun last year, I remember laughing out loud when everyone was commenting on the strange disco-balls dancing (or whatever they were supposed to be) and saying that it wasn't for real...

I know! I remember somebody complaining about all these pages we filled, but I just kept thinking "hey, that was the funniest part of it - sooo many posts in such a short time!"

Last night the Eurovision 2008 entry for the UK was decided through a TV programme and public vote, and the UK song will be 'Even If' by Andy Abraham. I'm happy he won; he's a good singer, and even wrote the song himself . You should have seen his reaction to being told he had won, he looked so shocked! Aw it was great.

The act who almost got in, Michelle Gayle, did have a crazy energetic dance routine though, it was very funny. She and her backing performers did a dance including lifting each arm in turn, as if they were advertising deodorant , then doing arm actions like a chicken! My sister and I had a good laugh watching it!

Has anyone heard about Ireland's entry, Dustin the Turkey? LOL It's in the news here because there's some controversy about it. Dana, who won the Eurovision for Ireland in 1970 has apparently called for Ireland to pull out of the contest as a result! But the majority of the public must have liked Dustin the Turkey if they voted for him... you never know what crazy songs can do well, or not... I'll be interested to see what happens.
