Default Movie reviews and recommendations

I always like hearing what films people have seen and what they thought of them, so I think it's easier to open just one thread for them than a new one for every single film.

I went to see Sweeney Todd a few weeks ago. I have two words: EEEEK! and WOW! I can't decide which feeling was stronger. I hate too violent films, so I kept closing my eyes all the time during the climax of it, but the other parts were just so aesthetic and the songs nice that I kept thinking it was a beautiful film. I probably wouldn't watch it again, though. One view also left me with a strong sense of it, so that's pretty enough.

And as I already mentioned in another thread, I finally went to see Atonement last weekend, and was really positively surprised that it was so artistic.

I saw "I am Legend" with Will Smith this Sunday. Quite well made, the deserted New York was an amazing sight. Not sure I liked the end though. It ended too fast. I expected more somehow.

I haven't seen that one, but I heard many people said it was great. I don't think it's really my kind of film, but if it's on tv sometime (like in 3 years time lol), I might give it a try.

Oh now I'd like to see it too, because I've only heard good things about it. Plus isn't the main rat (sorry, what's his name..?) just adorable. The nose...aw haha.

I went to see There Will Be Blood last night. Very very good. I'm not quite sure about the male leading role Oscar anymore... I think Daniel-Day Lewis was convincing. The film was really interesting, because at first I had no idea how it was going to be like, but then it suddenly started to make a lot of sense. I must also mention the music score - wow, very inventive.

Me again...

I finally watched Dead Man Walking last night. It's not a pleasant film to watch, but it was very thought-provoking. I also watched most of it with the commentary by Tim Robbins, and I thought it gave a great insight to how they filmed it, and also lots of facts about the subject matter.

I must say Susan Sarandon has such an amazing ability to show emotions by only the look in her eyes...something not very many actors can do. She doesn't have to say a word, but yet you can plainly see what her character is feeling and going through. Those big eyes.... *sigh*

The mosquito-like sound in the beginning of the movie. And the voice repeating "a bastard from a basket" in my head when I walked home after the movie.....It wasn't my favourite movie but made a great impression.

Have anyone seen Juno ? It was a positive surprise for me. And I rarely listen to soundtracks but this one was something I wanted to have.

Haven't seen "Juno" but I intend to. You just reminded me!

I saw "There will be blood" a couple of weekends ago. I didn't like it that much, however I thought it was great acting and it was somehow special and original which I liked. I don't know why but it reminded me of The Godfather. The mood in it I mean... and a line from another movie came to my mind. "What is it with men and the Godfather??". Somehow I think specially guys love this movie.

I haven't, but I want to, it looks good (and in places funny). Shame we can't go at the same time Sophy. hehe

Juno was a good combination of serious issues and humour. I don't like comedy, but sometimes I miss light-heartiness.

I want to see Juno too. Not sure if it's at the cinemas here anymore (it was still there last month).

Since I last posted here, I've seen: The Bank Job (didn't like it at all), Rain Man (interesting) and Fight Club (how strange, but still quite good).

I finally watched a Bette Davis film called All About Eve last night. I've had it since January, but I haven't been in the right mood to watch it until now. It was the first film with Bette Davis I've ever seen, can you believe it. I enjoyed it a lot and thought that she was amazing. Her character was somehow strong and fragile at the same time, if that makes any sense. Has anyone else seen it?
