Sorry, you just can't get away from me and this subject. It's my favorite show, with DQ running a close second. I had the pleasure to interview Kent McCray by phone recently. Kent was the producer on Little House and good friends with Michael Landon. He shared some wonderful things. As soon as I get it posted I'll let you know.

Great, Cheryl.
I too loved LHIP, but I have never seen it really in the right order, from the first episode in the first season to the last episode in the last season, so to speak. But I have seen a lot of episodes, and some of them a few times, or at least twice. I watched them as a kid, and later whenever I had time I still liked to watch it now and then. (Whenever I was ill and had to be in bed, I loved to watch TV and my favorite TV-show to watch in those times was LHIP. Really. Must have had a healing or at least comforting effect.)
I'm looking forward to this interview.

I must confess, that I watched this show only coincidentally and casually in my youth or later. So I missed something valuable, I guess. I always appreciated the charisma of Michael Landon much, but did recognize him severely only in "Bonanza". So I´m looking forward to more infos too.

Sounds really interesting Cheryl.

I enjoy Little House too! I started reading the books in childhood, and actually grew up reading each one at at a similar age to Laura at the time!

I first saw some of the series on TV at the age of about 12 I guess, in the late seasons. I think I remember the very last episode actually (when the fireworks are set off in the building), but it was a long time ago now. After that it wasn't shown on TV anymore. But a year or two ago a region 2 season 1 DVD set was made, which I bought, followed by season 2 which I'm now in the middle of.

I feel the same way....it's always a toss-up between Little House and DQ when I'm sick. One or the other is sure to comfort me.

Little House is one of those shows that I will just never outgrow. I started watching at the age of 4, when it started actually...my sisters were more into it in the beginning, but I was the one who ultimately became the die-hard fan. It's amazing to me that I actually put DQ on the same level, considering I only found DQ a few years back now. Cheryl & I have discussed on our LH board that we wish they would have explored Laura & Almanzo's relationship/romance on a deeper level, much in the way that DQ did with M&S. LHOP seemed to have all the romance caught up with Ma & Pa, which really was beautiful, but it was lacking with L&A. Too bad. Cheryl, though, has written many fics delving into the romance of L&A (I've only had the pleasure of reading a couple), but I must say she did a beautiful job.

I love Little House too...one of my all-time favorite shows. I watch it on Hallmark when I can, and have the DVD's from almost all of the seasons...

Thanks for the plug of my stories Amy. Yes, I love Laura and Almanzo's relationship, so the women of my Dean Butler group--Dean played Almanzo Wilder on the show--asked me to fill in some of the gaps in their relationship. I think I have 50 LHOP stories up their now and the ones in the series are all numbered because I am so anal. LOL!

I'm glad I'm not alone in my love of LHOP. I've struck up an email friendship with Susan McCray, who was the Casting Director for LHOP and who is also Kent's wife. That's how I got the interview with Kent.

Oh, that reminds me. Susan has an Internet radio show called "Getting to Know You" on www.ksav.org She's interviewed several of the stars from LHOP and the interviews are available in the archives. Pamela Roylance and Stan Ivar (Sarah and John Carter, Season 9) sometimes sustitute for her when she's away.

Also, Susan will be having a LIVE call-in show where fans will be able to ask her questions about LHOP, Michael Landon, the other shows she has cast, guests on Getting to Know You, etc.

Here are the details:

Date: Tuesday, Feb 19th

Time: 6:30pm Pacific/9:30pm Eastern

Number to call toll free: 1-800-407-KSAV

There were so many callers during this last show that Susan and the program director at KSAV knew they had to do another one.

Great info, Cheryl! I'll have to try to come up with a question for that live call-in! That is so cool that you have an email friendship with Susan McCray...I knew you'd interviewed her, but that's really neat that you two connected in that way! You've gained a new friend, and talk about a great 'in' to get the inside info! Where Little House is concerned, I'm sure there is still so much left to be learned!

I don't know if anyone here is interested, but I started a new blog titled Laura's Little Houses, which is about Laura, her books, and the TV shows inspired by those books.

You'll find it at http://lauralittlehouseontheprairie.blogspot.com/

Oh yes, I added it to my favourites! I liked your review; The Long Winter is a favourite book of mine too. It amazes me how anybody managed to survive; I can't imagine how hard it must have been. Yet reading it is not a horror story somehow.

I'll have to explore, the links too.

I have to admit that I've actually never seen an episode of The Little House on the Prairie. Of course I've heard so much about it, but I just never catched it (I'm not quite sure when it aired here). I noticed that they had released at least the first season on DVD in Finland last year, so maybe I can find it at the library when I go back. I'm quite interested in watching it, so I hope so anyway!

Wow Jen, really?! Oh, you should definitely rent it just to see...I SO love this show...it aired here in 1974, when I was about 4 years old. I started watching with my older sisters right from the beginning, but it was me who became the huge fan. Give it a try just to see---I love seasons 1 & 2 the best!

Yup, I'm pretty sure I would enjoy it a lot, so I'll try to find some DVDs at the library as soon as I can. I don't know what happened with me and Little House on the Prairie, but I honestly can't remember seeing even a few minutes of it. It's very strange!

Jenni, it has been on in Finland at some point because my mother has watched it I got the first season as christmas gift but I must confess it was the first time I ever saw it! At first I didn´t like it much but after few episodes I sort of got used to it. It´s so different from DQ in my opinion, I thought it would be more similar.

edit. I almost forgot! I think Little House is on TV in Finland at the moment.
