Default Denny Duquette

There are many interesting and important characters in Grey's Anatomy; main characters, who deserve an own thread, but I can't help it and start with the most memorable patient, the most memorable minor character, the most fateful character and a totally nice, wonderful guy (imo): Denny Duquette.

What is Meredith relationship with Derek compared to the love between Izzie and Denny. And even if I really like Izzie and Alex together (yes, I think they belonged together right from the start), it's nothing against the love between Izzie and Denny. (Imo)
We were just watching the episode when Denny appeared for the very first time. Awww ....
There were many heartbreaking scenes in Grey's, but none of them caused me to cry as much as I did, when Denny died. And even in the episods before. And all the more when I was watching it for the second time and knew how everything would end. Gosh, that was exhausting. (We will reach this part of the series very soon again. )

I have one question: What do you think: if Alex never had betrayed Izzie with Olivia would she have fallen in love with Denny? Or in other words: would she have allowed herself to get involved that deeply, to fall in love.
If she have had a relationship with Alex at that point in time would the whole Denny-story still have taken place as it did?

Oh, and another question: was the Izzie-Denny-lovestory only that 'great', because of his fate? Is fate or tragedy what makes love greater or let it seem to be greater? The love between Izzie and Alex certainly was deep but never seemed to be so deep before she was ill. Danger of seperation or actual seperation works like a magnifying mirror. Was it just this what makes Izzies and Denny's relationship so unique and great?

What are your feelings on Denny Duquette?

Gosh, I would love to answer that question, Ella, but I haven't watched the earlier seasons of Grey's yet (got into it later on), so I really don't know. Fascinating subject though, and when I get around to renting the earlier seasons, maybe I will have a good answer! I knew about the character of Denny mostly from what I knew about the history of the show, not from having watched it regularly early on. Sooo....

Denny as a character. Oh gosh, I don't know. I mean he was likeable and it was interesting that they brought up this doctor-patient issue. And I did like the way his and Izzie's relationship developed. But that's a very good question. If you ask me, tragedy has a lot to do with it. I noticed it with Meredith and Derek's relationship: I enjoyed them most of the time when there were still obstacles for the relationship (even if I actually wanted to Derek like one half of each season ), but once everything got smooth and nice...bleh, they suddenly became boring to me. And maybe it's the same with Dr. Quinn and Michaela and Sully: once they got married, they seemed to get more settled and all the tension/excitement was gone. But I don't think that works in real life, so maybe it's just in fiction that I get drawn to drama and tragedy. But it usually has to have a happy ending, which wasn't the case with Denny and Izzie.

I really loved the episode where he died, though. Izzie in her dress, the song that was playing. Was it Ingrid Michaelson's Keep Breathing that they used for the last scene? Or maybe that was a few episodes later? I can't remember anymore, but ever since I always associate that song with their story.

And I always thought the song was from the Meredith-drowning-scene, but actually this song was from the there-is-no-Cristina-wedding-scene when Meredith was walking along the aisle.
But there was another famous song in the Denny-dies-episode. I just can't remember which one.

I think, you are right, when you say that fictive relationships mostly are more interesting when there are obstacles, but strangly enough I like Meredith and Derek much more when everything was settled and relaxed, at least regarding their relationship.

Certainly the tragedy added to the idealization of Izzie's and Denny's love, but on the other hand they had an absolute outstanding chemistry, imo. They were just right for each other. So, I really wonder about things we will never know.

Amber, you just have to watch the early seasons as soon as possible!!!!
