Default All the references in Gilmore Girls

I thought since there are some people here who also enjoy this series, we could discuss all the references they use in the series. What do you think of them? Do you love them or hate them?

I personally love them: they make me listen to the dialogue even with more attention than I would normally do. Having seen the series once so far and now watching it for the second time, I've realised that I missed so many of the references the first time I was watching the series. Just today I was thrilled when I picked a reference to "My Fair Lady" in one episode because a year ago I wouldn't have had any idea where it came from ("By George, he's got it" haha ). I'm kind of pathetic, but it makes me feel proud when I can recognise where the quote comes from, and my sister and I sometimes even point them out to each other if one of us doesn't know the origins of a quote. But I've got to say there are plenty of them that I have no idea where they come from. But I was relieved to find out that neither do the actors, so maybe I'm not that dumb after all.

Also, I love spotting the names of some famous people and films, or even bands, in the dialogue. It just makes it more fun to watch, at least for me.

I'm currently watching second season again, and my favourite moment so far was in one of the very first episodes when Lorelai and Rory are going for Friday-night supper and ring the door bell. This maid answers the door and says:

"I'm Liesl."

To which Lorelai responds:

"I'm Brigitta and here's Gretl."

(i.e. the names of the von Trapp family from The Sound of Music) Things like that just make me laugh so much.

okay I'll stop now.

Oh, Jenni, you are soooo right. I love such moments too. They are soo Gilmorish. I can't think of one right now because my brain is blank, but I absolutely know what you mean.
But maybe one: do you remember the episode when Lorelai talks about a dream she had about Paul Anka? The dog Paul Anka or the man Paul Anka?

One of my fave Gilmore moments. I absolutely love that show. Thanks to Costco here we've been getting the series as they have it. After I finish watching Dr. Quinn all the way through I think I'm going to have to go on a Gilmore Marathon.
