Maybe a very stupid question, but is the only way to insert smilies to past in the codes? I found the page for that, but I was wondering if I have my settings wrong, because on most forums when you hit the post reply button there are smilies there to add. And I don't see them here.

Oups! I guess then really is something wrong with your settings, Morchel, because the box with the smilies (and even a link to more) is usually right next to the reply box.
Go to your User CP: Edit Options and check Miscellaneous Options and there the Message Editor Interface

Actually I know this doesn't have anything to do with smiley's but to add to this thread just real quick..how come when I made a countdown clock say for the World cup soccer how come it doesn't show up in my signature..am I doing something wrong?
