I don't agree with the winner. I preferred England and Sweden. For me the best songs and performances. For being a Slavic the quality of the Norway singer was quite poor, but that's my biased opinion as I am part of a folk group. The tune was kind of simple and predictable, sounded like many Russian folk songs. And the lyrics was nothing out of world.
I strongly agree with Spain being at the bottom of the list. That song was horrible.

I was surprised to find many good songs this year! Norway, Iceland, Russia and Estonia were all my favourites.

There were pretty good songs indeed. My favourites were Portugal, Israel, Iceland, Bosnia Herzegovina and Sweden.

I'm glad that I'm not the only one who didn't like the song of Norway. I don't understand the success of Azerbaijan neither...

Yep, we watched sort of together, in our own living rooms in different countries but talking via laptop - very cool!

I agree that there were more 'song' songs this year, and fewer crazy dancing acts - more of a song contest again. My favourite was Iceland, followed by Norway and Portugal. I'm surprised about Sweden and that Finland was last though - it wasn't terrible. The rapping Finn . Denmark's singer did a good Ronan Keating impression (apparently the song was actually written by Ronan Keating and performed in his style). And oh yes, I liked Israel too.

Btw Mireille and I thought that the Greek lead singer was dancing around as if he has ants in his pants!

I'm glad to hear you had a great time Lizzie and Mireille!!
I watched toghether with my parents after a long day of putting an ikea-kitchen up (as far as we got in one day), as I always do when I'm not watching in Munich togheter with cafe grace people I sure did think of our great time last year!

Hey maybe next year we can all have a big forum meeting watching the competition live in Oslo Norway??? LOL!!

My parents really liked Iceland, and I fell more and more for Albania as I watched and heard it. Guess my parents had better taste than me

Too bad I couldn't join you in the chat, Lizzie and Mireille. I was attending a housewarming party last Saturday, so we stayed there to watch the contest since we don't own a tv anyway. I don't know. Estonia's song was the only one I liked, and there were a few others who were okay as well.

By the way, I heard from my friend in England that they really liked the lady who was singing Sweden's song. I promised to ask if she's ever recorded any classical music or things like that, so I guess Sophy is the right person to answer this question.

I've been making some research on her and she is like an opera singer but quite revolutionary, she has shows that mix opera with comedy. I've seen her at youtube.

Ah thank you, Gemma! I'll point my friends there then so that they can see if they like her other material.

I had not heard of Malena Ernman before this year's Eurovision contest, but now all Swedes suddenly knows her. I think she's mostly working abroad and is successful there. However right now she's playing in an operaversion of Cinderella in Stockholm. Haven't seen any records, but perhaps there will be more of that.

Eurovision is getting closer! Time to love and hate!!

I just had my traditional "blind" listening to this year's contributions in the Eurovision Song Contest. Without knowing which country the songs belong to and without seing a video with their performance, I've listened to all the songs once to get a first impression.

I bet some songs will grow on me later and some will make me tired that I thought were good at first, and most of all - the performance also changes a lot when it comes to the real live show and not a studio recording, as always.

So this is my verdict from the very first impressions!

My absolute fave is - Norway!! Surprise, gosh! They won last year, but I think this song is beautiful. I thought it was Ireland without knowing. I hope he does it just as good live! Love his voice. Who is this guy??

Next top three in no particular order were:
Azerbajan
Denmark - OMG I can't help it that I apparently fall for the songs of my neighbour countries Had no idea!
Germany - OK this was the only one I had heard before besides Sweden, but I like it! And now when I've heard all the rest of the songs I realize it's among my faves.
Edit: Have to add Lithuania here! Really like it!

Some others that I by first impresson thought were second faves next to those were
Slovakia, Bulgaria, Belgium, Ukraine and Iceland

Netherlands gets the Sophy price for making me happy

At the bottom by first impression were:
Slovenia (sounded like a smurf song)
Finland - sorry my friends
Estiona - Weird
Russia - ZZzzz
Serbia - No...
Greece - ?
Lithuania - Not my cup of tea

Haha Kahle, that'd been my question too.

I only know that I don't like the German song (I hate it). But, let's see if the others can do better, LOL.

I like it (and my daughter loves it - and she loves the fact that Lena visits a school right around the corner )

Ahhh....The Dutch entrance really puts me off the whole Eurovision song contest. It's really terrible. Talking about smurfs. You know that the person who once wrote and sung a smurf song, wrote this years entrance... That should tell you enough.
