Um so while I was supposed to study for my exam, I came across the latest book by Patricia Cornwell called Scarpetta. I should have known what I was getting myself into when I picked it up, but I couldn't resist. I finished all of the 500 pages in three days, learnt too many disgusting details about forensic science, had too many scary nightmares and spent too many late hours glued to the book. But it was worth it! I liked it a lot more than the previous one, so now I feel she's back to the thing she's good at: developping the characters and their stories and playing on psychological suspense. The only thing was that the ending was quite sudden (and I didn't like the way everything was resolved), but I'll forgive her as she kept me scared for 460 pages before that. Kruemi, I remember you're a fan, so you definitely should read this at some point!!

I just finished reading "Met me under the Ombu tree" (in German "Der Geisterbaum" by Santa Montefiore. I never cried that much while I read a book!!

The forbidden love between two soulmates., Sofia and Santi. Until fate drove them a part - for 24 years. And when they met again - the love and passion is still there. But both are married and have families... Sigh. Wonderful.

Yesterday I started "Magic Hour" / In German "Wohin das Herz uns trägt" by Kristin Hannah and I can hardly put it down. It's wonderful.

Since I'm going on train and bus this weekend I bought myself a book to kill time with. I seldom read, but in summertime... I always love to read criminal mysteries!!
So I bought the book called "the snowman" by a Norwegian author - Jo Nesbo. It's high rated in Sweden. Hope I won't be able to put it down!

A very good suggestion. I love Scandinavian criminal literature, as far as I know it...
Fortunately this book is translated in German already and perhaps I will give it a try too.

I began reading "Terror" by Dan Simmons, a captivating and fantastic written book about the famous and tragical arctic Franklin-expedition, searching for the north-west-passage roundabout 150 years ago. But I don´t really like the interweaving of historical material with horrifying fiction. The real story is terrifying enough for sure and this fictional combination is somewhat alienating for me.

I've finished The Professor by Charlotte Brönte today. It's the third novel I've read from her (after having read Jane Eyre and Villette) and I have to say that this is a less impressive novel but still very enjoyable to read. The major part of the story takes place in Brussels in Belgium which was very interesting to me.

Next to read is North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell. I'm pretty curious.

And oh I bought A Christmas carol by Charles Dickens last week! It's a special edition with coloured pictures in it. I'll keep this until the christmas-period to read.

I recently read The Reader (originally Der Vorleser) by Bernhard Schlink (which my German teacher, who is German, gave me actually). It was a challenging and thought-provoking read, but also very compelling. A deep exploration of humanity and its greyest areas. It keeps you thinking.

I found its setting is very clever in that it made me think about the issues from a different perspective. I was taught about the war in school, but what happened in the years following up, to the present day, and the effects on the feelings and lives of ordinary people... that wasn't covered (and, am I right in thinking: maybe also not talked about that much until now?)

Schlink managed to bring such difficult issues together in an incredible way.

Believe it or not, but I've been persuaded (read: black-mailed by my colleague, lol!). I'm reading Twilight...

I'm still reading it too. I liked the first two books, but the third one was not that good I think. Now I'm in the beginning of the last one and I hope it will be better again.

Actually, I was quite angry after reading book 3. Jacob and Bella both got on my nerves - Jacob with his demanding, sometimes even arrogant manner and Bella who needed ages to finally make a decision. If I'd been Edward, I wouldn't have taken it so calmly, actually I would have told her goodbye. Well, I know he can't do that (rolling my eyes)... Maybe that is why I was pretty disturbed after finishing Eclipse. Breaking Dawn, however, held some surprises for me - and I loved the funny moments in it. Twilight and New Moon (from page 382 on ) are my favorite books though .

I also didn't like Jacob's arrogance. He was so sweet and kind in the first books. Edward's patience and understanding was too great, it was not realistic. And Bella...I think she doesn't really grow or learn at all. Teenage years are time of constant changing but her thinking seems to be the same through all books. I would have wanted to see her getting more mature.

Honestly I felt like quitting at some point with Eclipse. I felt it dealt only with the same old issues. But I decided to finish it anyway. The beginning of Breaking Dawn really seems better.

I'm currently reading A Long Way Down by Nick Hornby. It's quite hilarious even though it's about such a serious subject. But he knows how to find comedy in everyday situations (About a Boy is such a great book!).
