![]() No, I don't blame myself, everybody else could have posted it or stumbled over it. I agree Doc and that's what I posted earlier, how can somebody portrait on one hand and be in reality on the other hand sth. so different? |

I agree with that also, but maybe those right-wing beliefs emerged fairly recently. He was pretty much just a kid during DQ, and maybe his feelings about things in general hadn't fully come to light yet. Still, I'm shocked myself. I don't think I'll ever look at him the same again...that may be unfair, but it is still the way I feel, at least at the moment.
And, you're right, Bubbsophie, anyone could have found this and posted it. I'm glad you did, because it is something I would have wanted to know, even though, for me, it's not necessarily pleasant.

I think it's good that you posted it here too, Anna. That way people who want to read more about it can do so and those who prefer not to don't have to. I'm still a little confused about it all: I really loved Brian as a character, but when you hear things like this... I guess it just shows us that we shouldn't confuse the characters with actors. I guess a good actor doesn't automatically mean that the actor is also a good person (and my, there are so many examples of this!). But still it makes me feel betrayed that he has so extreme beliefs about things. I still didn't read the actual page, just your comments on his throughts. Grrr, why can't reality be like Dr. Quinn.

I am probley going to start world war 3 but. What do his political beliefs now have to do with a wonderful body of work he did 15 years ago? I don't care for some of his comments but it doesn't turn me off from the great work he did on Dr Quinn. He has some strong beliefs but the great thing is we don't all have to have the same beliefs. If we did this would be one very boring world.

The thing is that his political beliefs and the aggressive way he states them are the complete opposite of the messages and the ways of Dr. Quinn.
You are right, kelley, he was a child back then and his work was amazing. His character Brian was someone who was open for everybody and everything, full of love and understanding, who brought people together, who was peaceful and tolerant and full of compasion. Somehow I hoped or even considered it natural that something of this character had influenced the privat person Shawn Toovey; I imagined that all this came deep from his heart; otherwise he couldn't have acted so well, not as a child. People change, some for the better some for the worse. Maybe Shawn Toovey changed or was influenced from other people later in his life. I don't know. In the meantime I can see it this way, and so I'm fighting against the disturbance of my picture of Brian. He was a child, that's the difference. But was he an actor still today, I would never ever watch anything with him. The great and at the same time annoying thing with democracy is that even extremists are allowed to utter their inflammatory opinions. But fortunately everyone is entitled to utter their opinion about such opinions loudly and clearly too. I don't have to stand aside and refrain from any comment. And I think I wouldn't consider the world boring without the blockheaded beliefs of these people, which I don't call conservatives, btw. This has nothing to do with being conservative. It's a kind of right extremism to which I react very delicate. I do understand your point of view, kelley, and I understand everybody who says: I don't want to know about his statements. Everybody react different on such things. Some say: I don't want to know, some say: I don't care, some say: great guy (haven't met such reactions so far) and I have to express my bad opinion about him.

I don't know if someone is still interested in Shawn's life, but just in case...
He becomes father! Marianne, his wife, announced her pregnancy in her MySpace (this is the link: http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm...endid=16136391)

Little "Brian" got married... And he's procreating... I can't imagine it.. Hmmm.. there's no 'what the-!?' smilies.
What is this about his Myspace? It sounds bad... Is this going to scar me if I read it? EDIT: Hmm... He's certainly vocal, isn't he. Last edited by Rain Dancer; 10-24-2008 at 12:06. |
