I feel like having a 'born-today-thread'.
I know several people (not famous people, only famous to me) who are born today, and I was searching which famous people were born today too. And the first one I found was our Gimli, son of Gloin: John Rhys-Davies. (Happy Birthday and thank you for your axe. )Which famous people do you know who have birthday today, and who are important or interesting enough for you (for whatever reasons ) to send them wishes (which they will never get, but do we mind? No!!! ).Or maybe you don't know anybody special today. Maybe tomorrow, because tomorrow will be today tomorrow. Sense? ![]() Anyway. This is a weird thread for all kind of birthday wishes. Or maybe not weird. But every day. So: More birthdays on May the fifth??

What about Karl Marx?
![]() Born this day in Prussia in Northern Germany. One of the great Germans IMO - his analysis of capitalism is still insightful. Unfortunately up to now there was no society-outline created, which combined the human, justice-orientated approach of Marx with the freedom of democracy. Anyway, his ideas are proven nowadays with all the mess caused by the unrestrained globalism.

It's one of those family generation stories. It's about Emma Harte and her siblings in the early 20th century, they start a business, and through out the years she has kids and grandchildren who mess up and succeed and this and that. Anthony Hopkins starres in one of the moves based on her novels.

Getting back to John Rhys-Davies. He had also an important part in "War and Remembrance". Can't remember his character's name right now, but he was amazing, and that was the first time I noticed him, and that's why I was pleased to see him portray Gimli.
![]() Karl Marx. Well, since I live in East Germany, there are a lot of streets that carry his name. Mine too, LOL.

I found another man whose birthday is on May 6th (1871) - a brilliant writer who created poems like 'Fish's Night song':
- U U --- U U U U --- U U U U --- U U U U --- U U U U --- U U - Christian Morgenstern!!!!

Exactly!
And life would be boring if we remembered everything in time, wouldn't it?

I want to remember the birthday of the wonderful poet Erich Fried (* 6. Mai 1921, † 22. November 1988).
And to honor him here is one of my favourit poems written by him: Was es ist Es ist Unsinn sagt die Vernunft Es ist was es ist sagt die Liebe Es ist Unglück sagt die Berechnung Es ist nichts als Schmerz sagt die Angst Es ist aussichtslos sagt die Einsicht Es ist was es ist sagt die Liebe Es ist lächerlich sagt der Stolz Es ist leichtsinning sagt die Vorsicht Es ist unmöglich sagt die Erfahrung Es ist was es ist sagt die Liebe Erich Fried ![]() And the translation: What it is It is nonsense says reason It is what it is says love It is misfortune says calculation It is nothing but pain says fear It is hopeless says insight It is what it is says love It is ridiculous says pride It is careless says caution It is impossible says experience It is what it is says love Translation by M. Kaldenbach
