We just saw the movie "Welcome to Paradise" from 2007. The main reason for watching were kinda affectionated feelings regarding our special Hank.
![]() Welcome to Paradise is the story of an inspired, unconventional and entertaining female preacher, who provokes the resentments of her superiors. She is sent to the little village Paradise, Texas, for her last chance. William Shockley plays a basketball-coach, who discovers the talent of her son and develops interest to help him and her mother to settle down. The initial prejudices of some conservative townies are diminishing step by step, when the church is burnt down by an accident (with no insurance available) and all townies are forced to help each other to modify and modernize a barn to be the new church within a couple of days. William Shockley has some impressive appearances and his smiles are as likeable as different from the well-known Hank-feeling. He is definitely on the good side here and the tone and the atmosphere of his acting are proving his qualities of being an actor. ![]() The story is about the groundings of Christianity and the putting into practice. And in the end it is foreseeable, that the basketball-coach and the preacher are getting closer to each other... ![]() In sum: a highly recommendable movie for all William Shockley-fans! ![]()

I can second everything Slicker said.
This was a heartwarming movie with very good acting, an interesting story, funny as well as touching moments and an important message yet transported in an unobstrusive, sensitive and entertaining way, imo. I tend to be critical (and whoever has read my post about Alatriste knows that I don't hesitate to admit it when my most favourite actors play in a poor movie ) and even William Shockley and his movie wouldn't be save of my severe judgement , but I can't say anything negative about Welcome To Paradise. It was a pleasure to watch this movie, and I can highly recommend it.Btw: we mustn't forget to mention, for those who don't know, that William Shockley co-wrote the script. Impressing, I can tell you.

That sounds very good. Thanks for your reviews. I hadn't heard of this film before, so it's good to know that it was a positive surprise.

I already read some pretty good thing about this movie and I hope I'll be able to watch it someday! It will be strange though, to see William with the short hair and all, ghehe!

Actually it wasn't strange at all. He has become older (as everybody
) and I think the long hair wouldn't fit him anymore. It's good that he has changed and doesn't cling to the 'Hank-style' anymore. I think it is important for an actor to become independent from the role he was most famous for. But I don't think that is easy.

If I remember right, I've read that William Shockley is married now. Is that true?

And there is already another movie with William Shockley (well its status right now is in post-production): http://www.thegundown.com/index.html
Seems as if he is "back in the saddle again", in every possible sense. ![]() He makes films, writes scripts (he co-wrote also the script to this new movie), and produces. Very active guy. And: if you check out his site on imdb (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0794687/) you can find a lot of new pics, most of them from this new movie. Interesting. Long hair again, but he should get rid of this terrible goatbeard as soon as possible.

He sure looks good (again) even though he should shorten the beard...

I really have to agree with you and Ella! He looks good and fit but without that beard he would look even better. I would love to see that movie, though!
