I just have to vote for Wolf as he really is a special friend to Sully. Remember how Sully came in the first season, (I don't recall which eppy off hand) bringing Wolf to Dr. Mike so worry that his faithful companion was hurting. Something about having a run in with mountain lion. My heart went out to Sully and Wolf there. Oh, but there one fanfic that actually killed him off, well at least it was for heroic reasons, but it broke my heart and I had a hard time reading the fic afterward, despite loving it. There was another fic that mentions him having passed away of old age. I think this one was Sully having lost his memory. I wished the show had more story lines with Wolf doing more heroic stuff. I especially love how he served as a messenger in the eppy with the diseased blankets killing a lot of folks especially the Indians.
But, since I really can't tolerate dogs in real life, I say a cat, as they are independent. I lived with cats most of my life and have two. I had to give away third one, a newborn one my son found a month later away as it was too much having 3 cats. It was becoming a jungle hear with my growing plants and two turtles, hamsters, and lots and lots of fishes. We finally gave away 18 hamsters, and they sure do reproduce quickly. Never again. Now I'm after a parakeet and to get rid of one of the cat driving me nuts being horny all the time and he's fixed. Ugh!
